Signs of dyslexia in infants and preschool children

Dyslexia is a literacy problem , hindering neuronal disorder in varying degrees the ability to learn to read and write, that needs to be detected early. It is therefore essential to be alert to signs of dyslexia in infants and preschool children.

It is usually diagnosed in the first years of primary school, but the small and may show signs from pre-school. We already talked about the importance of detecting dyslexia before developing it , even before they begin to read and write, to avoid the negative consequences, such as teasing or school failure, which is usually facing undiagnosed dyslexic children.

In infants and preschoolers found some indicators, although not decisive, that the child may be dyslexic. Such as:
  • Present history (parents, siblings, other relatives dyslexic).
  • Difficulty holding the head at three months and try to catch objects that we put forward.
  • Immaturity psychomotor about babies of the same age: problems of coordination, balance and lateralization. They usually take longer to learn to ride a tricycle or a bicycle.

  • Difficulty remembering sequences and series to remember as the days of the week, the names of the colors, or to learn songs and rhymes preschool characteristics and to follow musical rhythms .
  • Confusion in the vocabulary that has to do with spatial orientation.
  • Alternating days "good" and "bad" in the nursery for no apparent reason.
  • Difficulty recognizing letters, and to associate phonemes with graphemes.
  • Delayed recognition structuring and body schema.
  • Little ability for manual and spelling exercises.
  • When you start writing, do it in a counter clockwise.
  • Very sensitive personality, a perfectionist, curious, sudden mood swings.
  • Sleep problems: either have a very deep sleep or wake up too easily.
These possible signs of dyslexia in infants and preschool children allows parents to be aware of how the child is developing and act as soon as possible if we see necessary.
